Yukon Brewery – Whitehorse, Yukon

If you venture to 102 Copper Road in downtown Whitehorse, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find the one and only microbrewery in the Yukon!  With the burgeoning set of modern offerings springing up in Whitehorse including hip cafes, big box stores, slick art galleries and boutique hotels, the Yukon Brewery fits right in on this list of cosmopolitan offerings. Yet Yukon Brewing still keeps the playful northern personality by brewing such unique beers as its Yukon Birch beer, Razz-a-ma-tazz Raspberry Wheat Ale, Yukon Crude Stout and their ever famous and popular Peter Peter Pumpkin beer.  The Yukon Brewery is carving out a name for itself not only all over the north but it’s starting to get a reputation across Western Canada, Quebec and believe it or not, at the Hannover Zoo in Germany!

Yukon Brewing opened its doors in 1997 and it’s owners Alan and Bob conceived their idea like many Yukon babies – around a campfire on a canoe trip!  Today Bob and Alan continue as owners and chief operators, growing the company inside and outside the Yukon. The brewery offers tours of its premises with tastings at the end of the tour.  All proceeds – that means 100% – go to local charities.

Another unique feature of the brewery is the wonderful labels for each brand of beer.  Original works are created by local artists and then reproduced on mass to form the labels of their beers.  Most labels use a northern motif that mixes local culture and the intense Yukon nature to form the beautiful work of art that highlights each bottle.

Yukon Brewing is a great addition to the landscape of the great white north.  Playful and delicious, friendly and charitable Yukon Brewing is a proud member of the Yukon community.  While you’re visiting the north, be sure to get a case of their beer or better yet take a tour of their brewery.

It’s an experience and “beer worth freezin for“.
